The Revenue Management and Customer Care Sub-directorate of
Budget and Treasury Directorate have established the following sections to
assist business:
· Business Help-desk in the Customer Care
Section - The purpose of this Help Desk is to provide more efficient
service to all businesses within the Nelson Mandela Metro and out-of-town
businesses who have accounts with NMBM. This help-desk give assistance with municipal
account queries and account-related enquiries.
· Business Collection Team in the Debtor
Management Section to negotiate affordable re-payment terms for the repayment
of arrears owing to NMBM.

Re-payment arrangement terms on offer in terms
of Council’s approved Debt Collection policy for Business Account holders:
·
Where allowed, the business must convert to a
pre-paid metering system (where possible) and the following arrangement may be
concluded:
·
Arrears up to R50000.00: A down payment of 50%,
or such variation approved by the Chief Financial Officer: Budget and Treasury,
of the amount in arrears (current account excluded).
·
A maximum monthly repayment period of 12 months,
with a minimum monthly instalment of R1000.00 per month or three (3)
months current account whatever is the greater, plus payment of the current
account.
·
Arrears exceeding R50000.00: must be referred to
the delegated officer (Assistant Director: Debtor Management) for affordable
repayment instalments.
·
The down-payment indicated above cannot be
waivered, but can be negotiated.
DEPOSIT POLICY FOR
BUSINESSES (NON-DOMESTIC CONSUMERS)
SMALL
BUSINESSES
·
Deposit amount between R500 and R10 000.
·
50 % of the deposit required to be paid in cash
and the balance in up to twelve equal interest free instalments.
·
Deposit will be reviewed every six months to be
equal to two and half times the average monthly consumption.
MEDIUM
BUSINESSES
·
Deposit between R10 001 and R50 000.
·
60% of the deposit required to be paid in cash
and the balance in six equal interest free instalments.
·
Deposit will be reviewed every six months to be
equal to two and half times the average monthly consumption.
LARGE
BUSINESSES
·
Deposit required in excess of R50 000.
·
60% of the required deposit to be paid in cash
and the balance in six equal monthly interest free instalments.
·
Deposit will be reviewed every six months to be
equal to two and half times the average monthly consumption.
·
Deposits of current businesses who default will
be reviewed every six months to be equal to two and half times the average
monthly consumption.
Builders/Plumbers opening an account in their name during
construction period - deposit will be reviewed monthly to be equal to two and
half times the average monthly consumption:
