Manages and controls the functions associated with the Plant Maintenance Services (Mechanical, Electrical and Telemetry) at the Infrastructure and Engineering Directorate through the design, development and alignment of policies, procedures, systems and controls guiding critical interventions, applications and outcomes and, providing strategic advice on the mission critical initiatives with respect to providing an efficient and cost effective services delivery of essential services such as Water Treatment, wastewater Conveyance and Wastewater Treatment, aimed at supporting the accomplishment of the Municipality’s key performance areas and objectives and IDP.

Qualifications and experience required: 

 

  • Qualified Instrument Mechanician Trade Tested.
  • Valid code EB Drivers’ License.
  • Three to four years’ experience.

 

Key attributes and competencies: 

 

  • Proficient oral and written communication skills in English and at least one other official local language.
  • Good interpersonal, communication and supervisory skills.
  • Good coordination skills.
  • High level of attention to detail. 

 

The successful candidate will be required to: 

 

  • Be physically fit and able bodied. As part of the selection process will be required to undergo a medical examination at the NMBM Wellness Centre.
  • Perform standby duties from time to time.
  • Work in all weather conditions.
  • Have experience in PLC Logic Controls, Scada, Telemetry, be PLC literate.
  • Work outside normal working hours during emergencies and planned overtime.
  • Work unsupervised most of the time.

 

 Job purpose: 

Coordinates and controls the set-up, work in progress and completion of specialized tasks activities associated with the repair of electronic instrumentation and process control equipment at relevant Reclamation Works and Pumping Stations and, attending to routine/general administrative recording requirements contributing to the accomplishment of departmental objectives. The range of equipment/instruments are very vast and include inter alia: 

 

  • Pressure and temperature transducers, gauges and recorders;
  • Variable speed drives (VSD’s);
  • Flow  measuring instruments and recorders;
  • Current  and voltage instruments and recorders;
  • Programmable logic controllers (PLC’s);
  • Human Machine interfaces (HMI’s);
  • Telemetry  systems via radio lines;
  • Uninterrupted power supplies;
  • Relay logics.
