FAKE NEWS REGARDING WATER OUTAGES
The municipality wishes to inform residents that fake messages regarding total water outages in the Metro tomorrow have gone viral on social media.
These messages are not true. We condemn the spread of fake news.
All our reservoirs have enough water and apart from Impofu, all other treatment plants are running.
Residents are encouraged to use water sparingly and not stockpile water, as this puts an additional strain on the supply system.
UPDATE ON EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN REQUIRED FOR SCHOENMAKERSKOP PUMP STATION & CHURCHILL PIPELINE.
All leaks on the pipeline have been successfully repaired however, a mechanical failure of a pump at Emerald Hill occurred when it was recommissioned.
Repair teams are assessing the damage and will execute repairs accordingly. The pump station is currently still able to supply approximately 75% of the zones normal demand.
If residents reduce their demand to 50 litres per person per day, disruptions should not be experienced.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused.

MORE THAN 15 000 HOUSEHOLDS USE WATER CARELESSLY IN THE METRO.
More than 15 000 bay households are still using water carelessly. This was revealed by the Minister of Water and Sanitation Honourable Senzo Mchunu at a community meeting held at the Walmer Multi-Purpose Centre this afternoon.
Minister Mchunu said that the Municipality has developed a system that identifies households that have a high water usage.
He said tha identified households will be heavily fined and have water flow restrictors installed in their premises.
The Minister pleaded with residents to save water and encouraged them to report water leaks.
Residents raised their concerns with the Minister. Top of the list was water leaks, perceived lack of urgency from the officials dealing with the water crisis and the need for the community to be involved in more projects.
Also in attendance were the Executive Mayor, Cllr. Eugene Johnson, the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Roads and Transport, Cllr. Itumeleng Ranyele, and the Ward Councillors.

June 16, 2022
Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor, Cllr Eugene Johnson, accompanied by Minister of Water and Sanitation, Honourable Senzo Mchunu, today, visited the Bay's western water supply dams.
The visit to the affected dams forms part of the minister's working visit to Nelson Mandela Bay, which began at the Impofu dam.
At the moment, no water is being extracted from the Impofu dam, however a contractor has been appointed to move the barge. Once fully operational, in less than three weeks, the dam will produce the 30 mega liters per day it previously produced.
Afterward, the delegation visited the nearby Kouga dam, where they met the Chairperson of the Kouga Irrigation Board, as well as provincial officials.
Also at the Kouga dam, the Mayor and the Minister met a community group from neighboring towns and were invited to join in the prayer for rain.
The Minister and the Mayor thanked the community for standing in solidarity with all Bay citizens.
The day concluded a the Walmer Multipurpose Centre where the Minister and the Mayor briefed members of the community about the work being done to avert dry taps in Nelson Mandela Bay.
